Holladay is a city in the south-central Salt Lake City Metropolitan area. It is also a part of Salt Lake County. It was founded on July 29, 1847, by a Mormon pioneer, John Holladay, who was a member of the Mississippi company. Currently, the population is approximately 30, 709, which is a significant increase in population from 14,561 people in 2000. The city was incorporated on November 29, 1999, as Holladay-Cottonwood. The name was then shortened to Holladay later that year on December 14th.
Holladay City under the strong mayor form of government until about 2003 until they adopted the council-manager form. Since then they had many mayors and then they acquired the first city’s manager in 2016. The Holladay area is known for its heavily wooded lots, its old historic homes and the controlled commercial development areas. They take pride in preserving their open space and farmland. It is a beautiful area that is not seen very much anymore in the Salt Lake Valley in new building sites. Some of the interesting places to check out would be Cafe Madrid, Cottonwood Country Club, Big Cottonwood Creekside Park, Mt. Olympus Trailhead. In addition, there are several good schools in the city of Holladay including Crestview Elementary, Howard R. Driggs Elementary and the Paul Mitchell School. Everything combined makes Holladay a great place to live, work, and play.
