Prepare Your Air Conditioning Unit Now

Some of the simple things you can do yourself are:

  • Clean or replace filters- This is a very important yet easy step. Dirty filters restrict airflow and recirculate dust into your home.
  • Keep outdoor unit clear –Make sure the area is clear of any debris. If there are any branches,  plants, or other items blocking the area or touching your air conditioner remove them. It is smart to have an open space of around two feet surrounding your HVAC.
  • Check Vents- Examine each vent in your home. Clear out any dust or debris. Make sure the vents in rooms you are wanting cool are open.  This will help your HVAC get an even amount of coverage throughout your house. Basic maintenance can improve the function, efficiency, and longevity of your HVAC. If you see any issues, call a professional to find any deeper problems.
  • Minimize heat from other appliances- In the hotter months, choose an outdoor grill instead of an oven, and hang clothes outdoors instead of using the dryer.
  • Use window treatments- Putting window coverings over the larger, sun-exposed areas will reduce and prevent the afternoon buildup of heat.
  • Use fans in your home- This will maximize airflow throughout your house. Positioning many different kinds of fans throughout your home will make a big difference in the comfort and feel of the air inside.
  • Test your unit- Turn it on. Make sure it is actually working. Check the flow in the vents, and feel if the air is cool.
